Eric and Richard in action

The name 'No Ginger came about when Eric, the guitarist (good name
for a guitarist) phoned his old mate Richard, the drummer, to ask if he'd still got the old drum kit. "Somewhere in the loft" came the reply "but I'm NO GINGER Baker" Hence the name of the band.

Eric, Richard & Ray had played together (musically that is) some years previous, but only briefly. Eric and Ray however were part of a band years before so were quite used to each other's quirks, (not as in Pauline). Then came the problem the singer, or lack of one should I say....
Not easy for the bass player to be lead singer...
Not good for the drummer to be lead singer...
and Eric's got a voice like an old fog horn!!

Richard with a fag on (naughty boy)

Three days before the first gig, the drummer (pictured above) was very poorly and was only just able to play!!

So...enter Johnny..after a brief spell with another singer
that is...won't go into that..
Eric & Ray 'discovered' Johnny at a kareoke night
(how awful - what were they all doing there in the first
place, that's what I want to know) anyway they heard and they liked the voice (pity about the rest of him)
So after months of training him (not really)
the Four Piece Band was fully formed.

The first gig was at the Waterloo Hotel at Taddington
(a city just outside Buxton)
Tracks such as 'Purple Haze' and 'Black Night'
could be heard as far away as the pub car park.
(due to the superb PA system)
but a rate good nate wos 'ad be all.
(Derbyshire dialect - or is it a local Dr Who monster)
